Due to the modern technology, we now can sit on the couch and take a glimpse of the vast blue world. There are several famous channels in filming epistemic ecological programs, such as Discovery, National Geography and Animal Planet. They produce high-quality pieces and show the hidden world to the multitude.

Blue Planet is a Homeric eco-documentary produced by BBC. It takes five years and is filmed all over the world, which shows the ocean in the integrity. Subsequently, Ocean Planet produced by Discovery Channel and Blue Alert produced by Free News, they all introduce the circumstances of the Blue in detail.
In Taiwan, the most famous producer of marine documentary is Ke Jin Yuan. His work is mixed with ordered thrusts and sentimental description. He invests energy and everything in making film for marine eco-conservation. The representative works of Ke are Remember the Coral Reef and The Squid Daddy’s Labor Room. Remember the Coral Reef keeps track of the relationship between human and coral, and The Squid Daddy`s Labor Room records how a diver found out the predicament of squids. Through the disaster in the ocean, human beings introspected themselves and made the rescue in the end. Ke also produces programs for Taiwan Public Television.
Another remarkable epistemic film is “Kuroshio” which is a transnational project that was filmed in Taiwan, Japan and Philippines by Taiwan Public Television team.
Furthermore, there are various marine documentaries recently.
Chronicle of the Sea, Nan-Fang Ao , it`s a film mingled with laugh and tears. Director Li Siang Siou has done a good job in depicting the characters of fishermen via the brotherhood between retired and current fishermen.
How deep is the ocean directed by Tang Siang Jhu is a touching story about “Mamunuo”, a Daos who left his homeland Orchid Island while he was young but back home to build his own house with the help of other Daos eventually.
Floating Island was a special project that gathers 12 indie directors to make 12 clips about the off-shore islands around Taiwan.
There is a special documental program in Taiwan Public Television called Formosa. Midst this program, Marine series(serial number : 154-Coral, 155-Sea master, 191-Amorgos, 172- Aquarium, 220-Beach) and Off-shore island series (serial number : 124, 125-Guei shan,133-Green island, 170-Ma Zu, 166-Peng Hu, 167-Wu Ciou, 169-Spratly Islands (R.O.C.), 165-Jin Men) has a great deal of Taiwan marine knowledge. |
